Even wonder what it would be like to play Android apps and games on your Windows laptop or desktop? Well Socketeq has got a solution. Socketeq, a Beijing based start-up company, has put together a system called WindowsAndroid that takes the Android OS and lets it run naively (unlike Bluestacks which only emulates Android) on the Windows kernel (Vista, Window 7 or Windows 8) instead of Linux.
Not only does this run Ice Cream Sandwich smoothly but it allows you to run it in the appropriate tablet or smartphone UI, and works fully with the mouse and keyboard as well. Those of you who have a new Windows 8 machine with a touchscreen will be able to take advantage of that feature and should make you feel right at home. However, remember this is not a full release so don't be surprised if you do encounter some glitches or bugs while your using it.
WindowsAndroid is still in development and there is no Google Play Store yet but you are able to side-load apps by placing the .APK files in the WindowsAndroid root\data\app directory and then restarting the program. Again, it is a work in progress so don't expect every app you try to load to work perfectly. After all some apps don't even work on actual Android devices that they were designed to work for.
All in all you will find things like a calculator and calendar features will work and you can even use Android's browser to surf the net and change wallpapers as well as run games and apps. Obviously for gaming a touchscreen Windows 8 machine is ideal but you can also play them using a mouse. If you want to play around with the early build you can head over to Socketeg site and click on download to try it out for free.
